Buy 1956 Fender Champ Vintage Lap Steel Desert Sand, 100% Original w/ Tweed Case Online
Buy 1956 Fender Champ Vintage Lap Steel Desert Sand, 100% Original w/ Tweed Case Online. A 1956 Fender Champ steel in exceptional, 100% original condition and full functioning order, with the original tweed case, is available for purchase. This Champ has unaltered electronics and its original nitro lacquer Desert Sand finish. The pickup is, for all intents and purposes, an early black-bobbin Stratocaster pickup with flat poles. Few instruments have a more clear, straightforward signal route, and the sound has a bell-like delicacy with equal parts twang and smoothness. This steel has been recently restrung with roundwound 12s at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar.
The playing surface is immaculate, with a few tiny scratches and block position marks, and the chrome Fender headstock cover plate housing the factory single-line Kluson tuners. Scale length is 22 1/2 inches and string spacing at the bridge is 2 inches.
The electronics include genuine solder connections, a red Astron “dynamite” tone cap, and 250k Stackpole pots from the twentieth week of 1956. Even the original “Cheerio” rubber spacers are still there between the pickup cover and baseplate. The original pair of flat-topped black knurled knobs are there, and the chrome plating on the control plate still gleams brightly with a little patina on the bass-side edge where the palm rests. The original Fender waterslide decal is present, and the Desert Sand finish exhibits minor scuffs and scratches to the right of the decal, as well as some wear on the rear, including a tiny lacquer chip.
Original tweed hardshell case with brown leather edges, luggage-style handle as found on early Fender cases, and plush red inside typical with early Koylon-branded Strat cases is included and in excellent condition. The latches are completely working and undamaged.
