1969 / 70 Gibson Les Paul Custom Black Beauty Vintage Electric Guitar w/OHSC For Sale. The Les Paul Custom was eventually superseded by the SG body type, much as the Les Paul Standard. It wasn’t until 1969 that the original Les Paul and Les Paul Custom were brought back. The Les Paul Custom, when it was reintroduced, was different from those from the 1950s in a number of aspects, including the neck tennon’s length and the shape of the control chamber in the body. In place of the original Les Paul Custom’s all-Mahogany body, the Custom began using a multi-ply body construction with a Maple top in 1969. A neck valute and a “Made in USA” mark on the headstock’s back are two further alterations.
