A 1973 Rickenbacker 4001 in exceptional, 100% original, and flawless operating condition is up for sale, together with the original hardshell case. This Rickenbacker has a neck through body design with a special color Azureglo gloss finish. It thumps and growls in equal measure, and the sustain is almost limitless. The instrument is strung with roundwound 45-105 strings, which emphasize the instrument’s grit and top end articulation. The original Hi-Gain pickups provide an equal mix of middle power and basic warmth. At 8 pounds 15 ounces, the bass is well-balanced, highly resonant, and well set up here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with smooth playing action and perfect intonation.

With undisturbed solder connections on the stock harness and CTS pots from the 47th week of 1973, all of the electronics function as they should. The stamped serial number on the Rick-o-Sound stereo jackplate contains the prefix “ML” and is dated for December of 1973. The adjustable mute still has its original (although toughened) foam, and the original hardware is all present and correct with crisp chrome plating. The single-ply pickguard and quartet of knobs are among the original plastics that are still there and in excellent condition.

The gloss Azureglo finish, which is 100% original and a rare custom color, has a few minor flaws that are typical of careful, honest use, including a few small finish chips on the top edge of the headstock, some light buckle rash on the upper bout of the back, and numerous small nicks and finish scratches throughout the body. The crisp, smooth Azureglo shine on the neck profile is still present.

The original black tolex hardshell case is complete, along with the factory handle, three original working locks, and tidy black leather ends.
