The 330/12 VP features a semi-hollow maple body, a set neck, and more natural note attack and treble detail than other 12 string designs. It also has a smooth sustain and tonal width that are uncommon in 12 string designs. Given its superior build and tone, it is understandable that the best musicians of the British Invasion and folk boom of the 1960s preferred Rickenbacker instruments. The Rickenbacker Toaster guitar offers higher output than more contemporary Toaster winds while maintaining the recognizable jangle, chime, and shimmer of the Rickenbacker 12 string design. Rickenbacker’s hotter Toaster pickups were often installed in ’90s specimens. The 8 kg 2 oz guitar is expertly set up at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with minimal movement and perfect intonation.
The three-piece maple/walnut neck, which measures.885″ at the first fret and.910″ at the 12th, has a round, appealing C-shaped profile cut with decent shoulder, filling the palm pleasantly and fretting effortlessly. The thick slab 24 fret rosewood fretboard has almost flawless skinny fretwire, with very little wear visible on the frets 1-3’s crowns. The guitar has a straight neck that plays easily, responsive, ideally set truss rods, and a nut that is 1.630″ broad (slightly wider than 1 5/8″). The Schaller tuning mechanisms on the headstock have very flawless chrome plating and perform as they should in terms of pitch holding.
Best 1996 Rickenbacker 330/12 VP 12 String Electric Guitar Fireglo
With untouched solder joints and CTS pots that date to the 22nd week of 1996, the guitar is exactly as it was when it left the Rickenbacker factory. The G96-prefix serial number on the jack plate also definitively dates the instrument to July 1996. All of the electronics work as intended, and everything is exactly as it was when the guitar left the Rickenbacker factory. The six saddle bridge with the original cover and chrome “R” tailpiece are both there and accounted for, and the chrome plating is immaculate. The pickguard’s little foil “USA” manufacturing label is still there, and the plastics are also in excellent condition.
This Rickenbacker model is an exceptionally fine specimen of a rare and out-of-production Rickenbacker, and it is truly close to mint in appearance. Wear is confined to pick scuffing on the top pickguard and just a few very tiny finish scratches in the clear layer of the gloss. The Fireglo shine is rich and warm, revealing some slight figure in the wood, including a hint of birdseye. This instrument has obviously lived the most of its life in its case. Along with the original Rickenbacker hardshell case, hangtags, case sweets, and factory documentation are all included.
