While the 4001V63 still features Rickenbacker’s current midrange growl and note assault, the sound may also be thumpier. The 4001V63 has a really distinctive sound that is noticeably deeper and thicker than previous 4001 (and 4003) models. The neck through body structure of the bass results in a highly resonant acoustical quality and wonderful sustain. This 4001V63, which weighs 9 lbs. 4 oz., has been expertly set up at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar for perfect action and intonation with new roundwound 45-100 strings.
The first fret and the twelveth fret of the maple neck’s C-shaped profile are both deepened by.920″ and.970″ respectively. The fretboard of the especially thick block of rosewood is still almost flawless, with narrow frets that are full height and have well-rounded crowns and just very little wear on the crowns of frets 1–5. The bass has a straight neck, perfect relief, and two sensitive truss rods that allow it to play comfortably over its 33 1/4″ scale. The replacement nut is well-cut and has a width of 1 11/16″. The bass’s headstock has the traditional walnut wings that contrast with it, as well as the original tuning mechanisms that spin easily and perform as intended. The Rickenbacker-branded lucite truss rod cover is there, and the V63 reissue benefits cosmetically from having a headstock design that is noticeably longer than that of earlier 4001 models.
With separate Volume and Tone controls for each pickup connected to a three-way pickup selection switch and a single mono 1/4″ output jack engraved with a 00-prefix serial number, the Toaster Top and Horseshoe pickups compliment one another beautifully (dating to 2000). The wire harness is undamaged and has pots from the 30th week of 1999. The chrome hardware and plastic components are very clean. Only a few minor, hardly noticeable finish scratches and a little patch of similarly barely noticeable buckle rash can be seen on the Mapleglo gloss finish’s exterior. Light birdseye figure in the maple runs the length of the neck and is particularly noticeable in the middle of the body. The neck profile gloss finish is immaculate.
A brand new molded Rickenbacker hardshell case is included.
