Rickenbacker / 4003 Fireglo New! [92910] For Sale
Rickenbacker / 4003 Fireglo New! [92910] For Sale. High-grade maple was used to create the Rickenbacker 4003. Because maple is so sturdy, it helps to preserve the neck's structural integrity, which spans the full length of the body. The neck-through construction and density of the maple are partly to blame for the guitar's renowned bite and snarl. The robust, deep bass counterbalances the brilliant upper end with a touch of warmth and harmonic intricacy provided by the broad rosewood fingerboard.

The old school Rickenbacker purists howled and gnashed their teeth at Rickenbacker’s new pickup design. They sound AMAZING, like the old 4003 single coils on steroids. The tonal variations you can achieve with your sound are many. Plays like butter….as a Rickenbacker should. If you’re on the fence, playing is believing. I wish Rickenbacker would make a new line of 4003 4 strings featuring these pickups. (keep the old style too of course

The quality of this bass is tops! My wife said it’s like a work of art. The string spacing is closer than Fender p bass (standard?), but it works well for 5 strings and getting around a wider neck. If you want normal (Fender) string spacing you should probably try one first. The pickups really get the lower range of the B string, this is a huge win. The pickups are really hot too, some may find them too hot (again be aware of that). It is likely a 33.25 scale length thing (maybe), but B string isn’t as strong as other 5 strings I’ve played. It is deep and powerful (and has the Rick growl), but it’s not as articulate as the E and A strings. This isn’t a game changer or a no go, because this is the Rick sound on a 5 string, and it does it really well. I also play a Verellen Meatsmoke, and maybe the B string sounds better solid state. The pickups are overall a bit more aggressive and thumpy vs the standard 4003. The Schaller bridge and tuners are great btw, this really speaks to the quality here. This bass stays in tune well, and intonation and action adjustments are great. One possible caveat, it won’t handle a B string over 130 well or at all. A 125 B string is a sweet spot. The 125 resonates and sound best. If you’re going for a really heavy B string you might need another bass (or at least another bridge).

I’m an old steinberger player circa 1990-1998, so I went for this miracle bass that has a fingerboard/neck action to die for and a wide sound palette. At 60 during the covid era I have no idea what a Ric 5 modern bass will do for me but it’s mine…if only to record on YouTube! Check this baby out!
